Richard MorriganFull Name:
Alexander Richard MorriganBlood Status:
WelshPlace of Birth:
St. Mungo’s, LondonDate of Birth:
5 November 2043Age:
Alex is very tall. Standing a few inches over six feet, he towers over a lot of people. He wears his black hair reasonably short, mostly for ease of care as there are always other things he’d be spending his time doing. His eyes are very light blue and, where they used to shine with good humor and laughter, lately, they have been much more cold and distant. The smiles that used to have a constant home on his face have disappeared as well in favor of a more hostile, almost aggressive look. Dressing Style:
Formal clothes are practically anathema to Alex. Even when he is required to wear robes for his job it’s usually thrown on over sneakers, a pair of jeans, and a t-shirt. On those rare occasions where there is no other option than to truly wear formal clothes – he will do so, but he won’t be happy about it. PersonalityCharacter Description:
Where once Alex had a very warm and welcoming personality, since the death of his wife he has become much more withdrawn and forbidding. He has always been just as scheming and conniving as any member of the Morrigan Family, though it has begun to show through more in the face of his loss, and the ambition to see the societal conflict end has only grown. More than ever, he truly believes that the Purebloods and their accumulated wealth and power – along with the abuse of each – are the problem with the world they live in and uses his position in the school to encourage future generations to continue to press for change and the alienation, if not outright destruction, of Pureblood culture.Quirks:
Like a lot of people who have come up through the House of Lions, Alex is brave and independent. Like the rest of the line of Morrigans that have come before him, he is also clever, pragmatic, and ambitious. Weaknesses:
The lessons that Alex learned in his life tended to be harsher and more powerful than some others have experienced and they have left him bigoted, stubborn, and unforgiving. His overpowering belief in himself also have left him extremely egotistical and meddlesome. Likes:
He loves muggles and their culture, reading, writing, and teaching. Dislikes:
On the other hand, he has a deep, abiding dislike – almost hatred – for, Purebloods and their stupidity; along with people who disagree with him or are content to live with the status quo.Boggart:
Alex’s Boggart had been the death of his family. Since the loss of his wife and daughter, he hasn’t taken the time to find out if it has changed.Patronus:
A large tiger.Patronus Memory:
The memory of the look on his wife’s face as she was repeating her vows on their wedding day.MagicWand:
His wand is made of blackberry wood and has a core of unicorn hair. It is 14 and 3/4 inches long and is quite rigid. It is very lightly colored and is ornately carved.Strength:
Alex Morrigan was one of the best Charms students during his time at Hogwarts and his talent for the subject only grew as he went through University. He is one of the youngest Charms Masters and he is proud of his talents. As well, he was naturally gifted with Transfiguration, though he hasn’t had the drive to develop that skill as much as he was with charms and so – while very skilled in the area – he isn’t quite to the level as he is with Charms. Weakness:
He never had any talent with Potions, it requiring too much attention for something that he pretty well feels could be completed with spells. As well, his disdain for Divination has caused him to completely write the subject off – paying it no mind. EducationSchool:

Unlike most of the Morrigans that came before him, Alexander was born at St. Mungo’s Hospital rather than at home as Theresa went into labor during the ceremony swearing Richard in to his seat on the Wizengamot. From that point, he has precious few memories of spending time with his family during his early years. His mother died of Dragon Pox before his second birthday and Richard – unable to deal with the loss and unsure what to do with a young child – hired a string of people to watch over his son as he withdrew almost completely from the boy’s life.
There were few times that his father was around. The fact that those memories were so good made them terrible when woven into the tapestry of Alex’s life; he couldn’t help but think of how close they might have been if Richard had deigned to spend time with him. This fact caused Alex to grow to resent his father and the rift between them has been growing ever since. By the time his Hogwarts invitation arrived, Alex – even at 11 years old – was more than ready to get out of the house and went without a backward glance
It came as a surprise to everyone but Alex when he was sorted into Gryffindor. Afterward, nobody would ever say that he hadn’t ended up exactly where he belonged. It was the first of many steps that he would take out from under his family’s shadow and he reveled in the change in the way people looked at him. The other Lions accepted him quickly and he made close, lifelong friends during his years at the school. When he went home after his first year, his father tried to pick up their relationship right where he’d thought it should be and Alex wasn’t having any of it. They fought like cats and dogs and the distance between them widened even more.
Everything continued about the way he expected it to and he excelled in his classes and made friends with as many people as he could. In his fourth year, Annabelle Chase caught his eye and he was smitten. He all but threw himself at her over the course of the year and by the end of the year they were a couple. His father seethed at the news and when Alex tried to bring her home to meet his father the summer before their fifth year and Richard lost his cool. He raged at the idea of his son dating a mudblood and forbade her entrance into the family home.
Without a second though, Alex left with her and spent the summer with some of his friends from school. Not wanting to deal with the publicity that would come from him calling the Aurors and having the boy dragged home, Alex simply concentrated on his work and let the matter go. The threads binding the two men together frayed further. This became the new normal, though during the summer between fifth and sixth year, Alex stayed with the Chase family who had come to love him and accepted him as their own.
As though they needed something more to cause trouble in his family, Annabelle turned up pregnant about halfway through their sixth year. When Richard found out that the girl was married and that they intended to keep the child he was apoplectic. Even more so when they married during the winter break. The Chase family, while loving, weren’t in a position to care for a child – especially one that was likely to start showing signs of magic. Reluctantly, Alex and Anna went to Richard for help caring for their son, Timothy. To their surprise, Richard agreed to watch over the boy.
Alex finished his seventh year very near to the top of his class and as soon as soon as they’d graduated he and Anna began looking for a place to live. The best they were going to be able to afford would have been a small apartment somewhere, and they would have struggled to make ends meet. They weren’t sure what to make of Richard’s offer to continue watching over the boy while they went to school – but they didn’t have much of a choice if they wanted to actually be able to provide for their family and so they agreed.
As their advanced education was coming to a close they began to discuss what they were going to do next. Alex still had some schooling to do and Annabelle’s job as a Curse Breaker was going to take her overseas for some time. With trepidation, they approached Richard again – to ask him to look after the boy until they were settled somewhere that they could do right by him. Richard replied with a counter-offer. He would adopt the boy and they could go and do whatever they wanted.
Alex was horrified, but it quickly became apparent that this was something that Richard truly wanted for some reason or another and things became more and more difficult for the young Morrigans as they tried to figure out a way around this. They were unable to get jobs, and their funding for school was running low as Richard leveled his influence against them. They caved in and agreed to allow Richard to adopt their son and hoped that they’d be able to get their feet under them quickly and make things right by Tim.
Even more unexpected, days after Timothy’s adoption, Alex found himself disowned from the Morrigan line and a multitude of doors closed in his face. Any chance of coming back and reclaiming their son vanished as he and Anna fought to find a way to move forward with their lives. Alex finished his Charms Mastery and began a degree in Education as Anna worked overseas for Gringotts; a job that paid far better than they ever would have guessed. As they lived their lives, the brought Blythe and Trystan into the world as well.
Finally finished his degrees, Alex served as a Professor at the University for only a year before he was approached by Headmaster Norwood that the Charms Professor was retiring and they wanted him to fill the position. Alex jumped at the opportunity – not considering just what all this timing would mean. He began as Charms Professor during Blythe’s first year at school – a blessing for sure. What he hadn’t considered was that Timothy was there as well. In his mind, this was going to be a perfect opportunity for him to reconnect with his eldest son and hopefully build a connection with the boy he knew nothing about. Tim, on the other hand, showed absolutely no interest in this and Alex was hurt by the disdain and disrespect his son showed him. Late in the year, Blythe was assaulted by another Pureblood boy – and Alex’s regard for the Headmaster was shaken when the man wouldn’t prosecute the boy who’d done it; claiming it was an accident.
During his second year at Hogwarts, he found himself elevated to the Head of Gryffindor and he couldn’t help but feel a great deal of pride in that. His relationship with Tim hadn’t gotten any better. In fact, it had soured considerably – though he wouldn’t have thought that was possible. He had come to hate the boy’s best friend – a girl named Amber who embodied pretty much everything Alex hated about the Pureblood crowd. She was entitled and self-centered and she brought out those attributes in his son as well. Despite his best intentions he was beginning to fear that his relationship with Tim was going to be a total loss. At the same time, he was pleasantly surprised by the clear willingness of a Slytehrin boy, named Sannesley, to provide him with all of the opportunities to release his anger as he’d need. The Pureblood scion was messing about with potions and had managed to get himself addicted to something – Alex found he was never without a chance to take points from the boy for it.
During that summer, Alex was ecstatic as Anna’s pregnancy came to term and their family grew with the birth of another daughter; an adorable little girl named Lara. Alex hated being away from his family so much during the year and began to give serious consideration to finding something else that he could do so that he wouldn’t be away from the early years of his daughter. Anna convinced him that it wasn’t necessary and he spent the summer just enjoying their company. This caused some tension with Blythe who didn’t appreciate falling from the center of attention though he worked as hard as he could to stop her from feeling that way.
His third year at Hogwarts was the most interesting yet. Trystan had finally joined them at the school and he cheered as his son was sorted into Hufflepuff. The rest of the students were not taking well to Muggle Studies becoming a mandatory class and they tried to rebel against it as best they could. For the most part, the students soon realized that there wasn’t anything they could do and accepted the new class. Not all of them though, but enough that the leadership wasn’t too worried about it. Alex hoped that things were falling into a new pattern and it seemed that was the case as the year rolled on and then it was summer again.
The tension between Blythe and the rest of the family and he desperately hoped that it was something she’d get over quickly. The summer flew by so fast he again found himself wishing that he could just stay home, though it wasn’t to be. That was what found him back in Hogwarts, preparing lessons and setting up his room while his family fended for themselves. Anna took Lara and Trystan to Diagon Alley to try and get their shopping done and found themselves in the middle of a riot. Trystan was rescued by Timothy and his friends. Anna and Lara were not so lucky.
Alex was not looking forward to going back to school again, though he had nowhere else to be. At least he would be near his children, though he doubted that the students would appreciate their new Head of House.
