When Blythe was born, she was named after her mother and called by her middle name. She grew up spoiled, getting almost everything she wanted, just as she thought she should. She was happy being an only child and has never been told that she has an older brother that her parents abandoned. She was a very happy child until her parents gave her an unwelcome surprise.
When her baby brother was born, Blythe was dismayed to find that no matter how much she whined or screamed, her parents refused to get rid of the smelly thing. In an effort to get their daughter to accept their son, her parents told her all about how they were counting on her to teach Trystan what he needed to know. Blythe decided to give the baby a chance.
Her favorite thing to do with him was make him play with her, even though it meant putting him in a dress for a tea party. If he refused, she threatened to say he hurt her or broke one of her toys. Blythe knew she could control him, as well as her parents, with misbehavior.
Her father saw this behavior and was alarmed that his princess was acting more like a Slytherin than a Gryffindor and tried to take steps to change the way she acted. In some ways, it worked. She did learn how she should act, though while at home, things weren’t much different. Her father only hoped that because she liked muggles, her best friend being one, would be enough to put her in red and gold.
Soon enough, she got her Hogwarts letter, along with the surprise that her dad would be there as well, as a Charms professor. She knew he had been one before but also knew he had retired to be with his family. She was glad he would be there with her. It made it easier to be away from her mum.
Getting sorted was nerve-wracking, though looking back, it was kind of fun. How often does one get to talk with a hat? And she’d been sorted into her parents’ house! She was so excited. Being in Gryffindor would be great! Red had always been her favorite color, and as a half-blood, no one connected her to a pureblood family. She would be right in the middle of everything and she loved it.
Well, she didn’t love school as much as she had thought she would. Having her father there was great, but she’d met her older brother and his best friend. She didn’t like them at all. And she hated being paired with Slytherins on stuff. And some of the kids didn’t like her because her father was part of the staff, and therefore she was more special than they were. It wasn’t her fault they were jealous. She’d only managed to make a couple of friends. And then! Before the school year was even close to being over, she’d gotten cursed in the hall. She’d been injured so badly that she’d had to go to St. Mungo’s and miss almost half of the school year. And the Slytherin who cursed her swore it was an accident and so he wasn’t even expelled. At least it was summer and her family would be together again, minus her nasty older brother.
Summer was just strange. There were secrets in her house. On top of that, she had to see her older brother! Ugh! She had liked meeting her grandfather though, until he got angry with her. She never even understood why.
Second year was much better. She hadn't been cursed at all. The holidays were different. She had to go to her grandfather's again. This time without her parents. Her grandfather was much nicer that time and even gave her a horse. It was the best present ever! She didn't even feel jealous when her younger brother learned how to do a couple of spells.
The summer after second year was just yucky. Her mother had had a baby. Did anyone ask her if she even wanted another sibling? No they didn't. It wasn't fair that she was no longer the center of attention. She once stayed in her room, only to say she'd snuck out later and no one had noticed.
At least her third year was better. Trystan was finally at school. She was sad that he was in Hufflepuff. She'd hoped he'd be with her. But since he wasn't, and she was not happy with her dad, she stayed to herself most of the time.
