So. A lot of changes had been done to the school, most of which, well, to be perfectly honest and highly ineloquent, utterly sucked.

There was one change though, which whilst it sort of annoyed him a little bit because truthfully horsefolk really belonged in the forest and not amongst civilised society let alone in a position to teach the future generation of wizardkind, it also sort of amused him in a sense that he could have a lot of fun with it. Call it optimism, if you will. It couldn’t exactly get any worse at this point anyways, unless of course Norwood’s next genius idea would be hiring that house elf Boopsie to teach them Defense Against the Dark Arts. A most ghastly idea, certainly, but frighteningly enough actually pretty plausible. A thought which made you want to both laugh and cry, possibly even at the same time.

Caspian had grudged enough though. It was time to just brush it off and focus one’s thoughts on more fun things, like mischief and other amusing ideas, and it so happened that he had just the thing in mind.

Grinning to himself in a manner which told the world just how very pleased he was with himself as he exited the Slytherin Common room carrying a small but suspicious sack under his arm, looking a lot like a poorly stuffed pillow. He strolled along the corridor until he reached the stairs which would take him upwards in the Castle.

Amber had just left the kitchens. She’d take a combination trip to grab some snacks for her study session later as well as a visit to her favorite house elf. After playfully begging to steal Boopsy from Hogwarts and being turned down, again, she had given the little elf a hug and left, heading back to the common room.

Amber really didn’t like studying for Herbology. She didn’t really like that class at all, but she knew the next lesson was one she needed to study ahead for. She needed snacks to make it through that torture. She just thought there was really something wrong with plants that wanted to eat someone. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t work for high grades in that class though. If she could manage Care of Magical Creatures, she could do Herbology easily.

Just as she was about to leave the corridor for the staircase, she saw someone familiar. What in the world was he doing? He had an unsettling smile on his face and a suspicious sack under his arm. Easily, she changed direction to follow him.

Where was he going? Okay, she couldn’t just quiet anymore. He was bound to notice her following him. “Hey, Lanchester,” she said quietly, yet loud enough for him to hear. “Going somewhere interesting?”

Caspian’s heart nearly skipped a beat, thinking for half a second he’d been caught by a teacher – not that he was doing anything wrong, he was simply climbing some stairs, but the mindset of being on his way to go do something suspicious caused him to be a bit jumpy. Thankfully though, he quickly realised that it wasn’t a teacher and he looked around, greeting the person who turned out to be Alyssa’s little cousin, with a cheerful smile. He was in a good mood after all.

“Oh, hello there, Elison.”

His smile grew into a mischievous grin when she asked him if he was going anywhere interesting. “As a matter of fact, I am…” He said, casting a glance around for any prying eyes or ears.

Although he didn’t really know Amber more than just being casually acquainted because she was Alyssa’s cousin, he knew enough to be fairly certain that she wasn’t the sort of person to run and snitch to the teachers if he told her of his plans. From what he’d heard, she was a bit of a mischief-maker herself so she seemed trustworthy. And besides, his idea might be more quickly executed if he had company, and more fun to share it with someone too.

He leaned a little closer to her, lowering his voice as he spoke. “You know that new, four hoofed professor teaching Ancient Runes?” How could she not. He wasn’t exactly very inconspicuous-looking! “I was just on my way over to his classroom to make it a bit more homely for him. Call it a belated welcoming gift… Wanna come?”

Amber almost, but not quite, gigged when Caspian froze for half a second. That had been funny. She hadn’t thought she’d have sounded scary at all, but if he hadn’t noticed her, she supposed he could have just been startled by the sudden sound of her voice.

“Yeah, hi, Lanchester.” She didn’t really make a habit of calling people by their last names, but since he always called her Elison, she returned the favor. “Didn’t I do my part of the greeting already?” she joked.

“Really?” she asked, eying him with a bit more interest. Would he actually tell her anything? And if he did, would it be useful to her at all? It seemed like he might just tell her if the way he was looking around was any indication. She made sure to stand there calmly, even going so far as to lean casually back against the rail. She wouldn’t show how eager she was to find out what he was doing.

And then he was leaning closer and whispering. She nodded as he asked if she knew the new Ancient Runes professor. Since he was so new, she hadn’t yet had a class with him, but she’d been absolutely shocked when it was announced that a centaur would be teaching them. And staying inside. She’d heard that had happened once before, a long time before, but she couldn’t remember the details. But she was pretty sure that centaur hadn’t stayed in the castle. She was a little curious as to how he would handle it. She just hoped he went outside to do his business. She wasn’t cleaning that up. Ew.

“What about him?” she asked, softly. Make the classroom more homely? What did that even mean? Well, it had definitely piqued her curiosity. “Oh, I definitely want to be in on that. Can’t let more time go by without welcoming him. That would be utterly remiss of us.”

Caspian grinned when Amber expressed a keen interest in joining him. But then again, who wouldn't? Very few would turn down such an opportunity to take the piss out of a teacher.

"Excellent!" He exclaimed in a quiet tone and motion for her to follow, and he went on in a sarcastic tone. "My thought exactly. I mean, we can only imagine naturally, but it must be quite a challenge to come fresh from the wilderness and suddenly be thrown into polite, two-legged society without so much as a tree around to rub against when your flank itches. We must do what we can to make his move here a little easier, right."

Reaching the runes classroom, the door was of course locked. Not that that ever stopped him before. "Alohomora" He whispered and the door clicked open.
It seemed rather stupid really, when teachers bothered to lock the classroom doors when a simple unlocking charm was taught in first year. Perhaps it was more of a principle thing. A locked door meant one ought to respect that whether one possessed the skill to actually unlock it or not. But really, like he'd ever give a kipper's dick about that.

He cast a last glance around the corridor to make sure no one had seen them before closing the door behind them. He proceeded by ripping the little sack open which he’d been carrying under his arm, and a small stack of hay fell onto the floor. It wasn’t much at all of course, but nothing a few multiplying charms couldn’t fix.

“Horses need hay.” He chuckled and drew his wand once again. “Let’s make this room cosy for him.”

Amber smirked at Caspian’s exclamation and easily fell in behind him. Some might have thought she was crazy for joining, but why not? She was bored in general, and this sounded like fun. She let out an almost silent chuckle. “I would definitely agree that we should help the new professor, uh, acclimate to his new surroundings.” Who had ever heard of a centaur professor anyway? Outside of when that old headmaster guy had done it to piss off the Ministry. Then again, that was a good reason in and of itself.

Really? Just a first year unlocking spell worked? How stupid were these professors? That was way too easy. It was almost asking for something to happen. So, it was almost like there would be a major disappointment if nothing did happen, right? They really shouldn’t disappoint the new castle resident. It would be rude to do so.

She slipped into the room as Caspian made sure they hadn’t been noticed. She busied herself looking around, wondering what a centaur decided he needed indoors. It was the weirdest room she’d ever seen, and she’d seen her parents’ decorating tastes, so that was saying a lot.

She turned back towards the door when she heard a ripping sound. She couldn’t repress the giggle. “So, we’re feeding him?” Did centaurs even eat hay? Not that it mattered it would still be funny.

“Let’s do it,” she agreed, snapping her own wand out of its holster and into her hand. She watched to see how Caspian would do it, then she’d do the same.
