It was the weekend, finally, just after breakfast, and what better way to spend a Saturday morning than to go flying. Alyssa, not being particularly fond of the activity had opted against joining him, as she always did. But he didn’t mind, he was quite used to it. Though, he really did wish his friend would join him one of these days.

He kicked off the ground from the courtyard and soared up into the air like an arrow, the wind nipping at his cheeks as the castle grew smaller and smaller behind him. The view from above was really quite spectacular. It never ceased to impress him, and he hovered there for a moment, high above Hogwarts castle, admiring the beauty beneath. The mist still hung over the grounds which were slowly changing into a landscape of auburn, yellow and orange, so vibrant against the clear cornflower blue sky. The air was crisp but pleasant enough as the sun shone still warm. This was, in Caspian’s opinion, the best recipe for happiness.

Grinning to himself, he went for a dive, speeding towards the lake. He flew along the shore, circling the lake at a low altitude, zigzagging between trees and other obstacles in his path. His idea of a good time was probably something most people would call reckless, and to be fair, a fraction of a second hesitation would undoubtedly end in a broken neck, but he absolutely loved it.
He wasn’t sure for how long he’d been at it but he reckoned it must have been at least an hour, so he landed just by the edge of the water and sat himself down against a rock for a moments rest.

Pavon wanted to clear his mind. There were a good few things he had not known what to do about. One of them was of course the infamous subject of muggle studies. Skip it? Support his house's opinion, or not skip untill he knew that his future was not jeopardised. It was bad enough a squib was teaching another class! But at least that one was not obligatory and it was not one he was attending. So this was the reason he was now outside, avoiding most other students, broom in hand and his owl, Greif, on his shoulder. The little thing needed some excercise so she looked rather pleased to be able to come along. At first he though of going to the quiddich practice grounds, but after spotting some grffindors there, changed his mind.

He had not expected there to be many people close to the lake, while it was saturday, there were other, nicer places to be at. Getting closer he spotted another one in the air. He lowered his broom and then as it levitated at his side, mounted it, still watching the rather reckless flying of the boy. Much as it could be considered dangerous, he did look like he had the skill and ability to pull it off. After a short while and a decision not to look for his own spot, Pavon kicked off and flew into the sky.

Greif took off on her own, after doing a few practice rounds with her owner. She usually did that so the younger boy paid little attention to the bird and more to his flying. He had not noticed when the other landed, caught up in one of his twists and turns and rolls, trying to test some manevour he was not completely sure about last practice. The broom was still great but he has already heard about rumours about Mickey's new acquisition.

Really, that was another reason he was here, outside. He did not want to risk meeting him in the halls, did not want to think about what happened at the dinner in th great hAll or discuss it with ANYone. It was NOT funny! After a few stunts in the air, a few sharp turns at rather great speeds and dives, after which he pulled up at the very last second (feeling th grass on his lowered hand, he finally looked around again to see the boy was no longer up in the air. That was perhaps when he nearly flew into the boy. Sure, perhaps looking around and not paying attention to where he was going wasnt the best idea, but it was mostly lake, stones and grass around!

Leaning sharply to the side he both avoided the colision as also slowed down. "My apologies!" he turned to look at the boy recognising him right away. So... he could fly? And not just fly either! It was the rather amazing control that he had on that broom! He looked at the wood in question and blinked flying a little closer becore slipping of his own. It was not just any old thing! "You fly good." They could have had opposing opinions but some things mattered more.

The sun was warming and nice and Caspian closed his eyes as he leaned back against the rock for a rest. He didn’t exactly doze off but close to it, as his mind drifted away to pleasant thoughts... and food. Some lunch wouldn’t be half bad, acually.

His thoughts on Cornish pasties and meat pies didn’t last very long however, when something unexpected swished by him and his mind was jerked back to the present. Surprised, he looked around to see what had nearly collided with him, and he chuckled lightly upon spotting who it was. “Don’t worry about it.”

“Thanks, you’re not too bad yourself.” He said, returning the compliment with a small grin at the corner of his mouth. Whilst he didn’t enjoy Quidditch very much at all, he had still attended a few matches whenever Slytherin had been playing to support his house and partake in the game spirit. No, not really, but he’d found the cheerful atmosphere often roused by the sport to be quite ideal for pulling girls and that was reason enough for him to go. So he had seen Sannesley fly before, and the bloke had skills. And by the looks of it he probably had more skills than his broomstick allowed him.
Caspian could only guess, of course, but he reckoned the broom must be at least one of two years old and that was fairly old in Caspian’s book. Old wasn’t necessarily always bad though – he had some vintage brooms himself which he enjoyed very much – but, for Quidditch, and when you wanted speed and agility, as a general rule, the newer the broom the better.

“Mind if I have a look at your broom?” He wondered and offered the other Slytherin a small smile.

"Go ahead." Pavon didn't mind if the other boy looked at his broom. He had been quite satisfied with it, even if one year old. Of course if he had had more money, he would have gotten a different model, never and better, but even this one showed thought put into its purchase. It was his. He smiled and held his broom over, much more interested in Caspian's own. He glanced at it first, then tried to see it better to be able to figure out which model it was. It had shown really great control earlier, tight turns, no dragging that he could tell.

"May i look at yours? Don't think I've seen that particular model, although I know the company! They make one of the finest brooms for the sport! And obviously flying." He had seen some examples during his broom choosing phase. The choice of wood, made for a selection of handsome pieces, the twigs cut rather stream line and the polish bringing out the best elements of the wood grain. One could ofcourse choose between stained wood, painted darker or natural hues, different colours of twig to match. There were a few of the professionals using the pro line for their quiddich matches as well.

He briefly glanced at the lake and then adjusted his robe. His hair had been a little windswepped and messied up. so for a better and proper appearance, he ran his wingers through it to settle the worst down. He was already wearing gloves, and those were in the colours of his house. He had left his new cape in his dorm, not wanting to see it ruined, but the belt he got for birthday, with precious stones and the two snakes, he was now wearing.

"Why don't you try out for the team? " He asked looking at Caspian. "We could use your flying skills and i think we have a few spots open. You get your choice of girls..." Well it did depend and it wasnt as if they would throw themselves at them, never the less after a victory, some would.

Caspian took Pavon’s broom after being allowed to look at it, and he inspected it with interest. It was a good broom. Solid and reliable, and it was really well taken care of. Proper broom grooming made a huge difference in the way the brooms preformed after a while. If they weren’t given the attention they needed and deserved, even the best of brooms could be outperformed by cheap, mass-produced brooms. And that really was a waste of good craftsmanship.
It was evident though, that Stannesley spent a lot of time maintaining his broom. The handle, although showing some signs of wear and tear, as to be expected, looked like it was frequently polished to keep the wood from going dry and dull, and the twigs were neatly clipped as well. He clearly cared about his broom a lot. Caspian liked that.

“Not at all.” He said and handed his own broom over to the other boy. “It’s the newest one in the White Wraith series, I think it’s said to be in stores by yule time. But my uncle usually sends me the new ones to try out before they’re released.” He smiled, always keen to talk about his broom, and Pavon seemed like he appreciated the craft as well, so he went on enthusiastically, “Polished spruce wood, birch twigs and brass cuffs. The handle is wrapped in rose tanned chimaera leather for a better grip, and it has a built-in compass and altimeter.” He pointed to two small glass covered gadgets encased in the shaft and fixed with polished brass. “It’s primarily a racing broom though, with a capacity of nought to two hundred in seven seconds. It’s not really designed to withstand too many hits by bludgers, so not ideal for Quidditch. But you can try it, if you want?”

When Pavon asked about Quidditch, Caspian shrugged. “Nah. Quidditch isn’t for me. I’ve never really like it to be honest.” He supposed he wasn’t much of a team player. The idea of having to rely on others to win just didn’t appeal to him. He chuckled though, when the other Slytherin mentioned girls. It wasn’t really like he needed help in that department, but he had to commend the bloke for mentioning it. It was a clever thought.

“You play beater, right?”

Pavon took the broom eagerly and brought it closer for an inspection. He smiled as he ran his hand along the smooth finish that made the wood feel as though it would offer no resistance to the air through which it would fly. He followed the curve, obeerving the added gadgets carefully. It could serve as a long distance racing broom too! Once he turned to the twigs his smile broadened. A lot of thought had been put into that broom. Every detail crafted to try and solve problems that could slow it down. He turned it around and gave it a thorough onceover there too. He glanced up at Caspian when he was offered to try it out if he wished to.

"I would certainly love to." He said, turning the broom again so it would be ready to be mounted. He nodded when inquired if he was a beater. "Yes. Joined last year. Been practicing for this one ober summer. We need to make sure we win again. Wouldn't do to have any of the other houses take the cup." He mounted the broom, shifting his weight a little. It gave promise of speed but just as Caspian said, it could not take a beating long. Probably would be great for a seeker though!

"Best position if you want to get at the other side would be playing beater, if you ask me. Sure you have to tale care your players dont get hit but... well, it is more fun than it sounds. And you dont need to worry about scoring points. Or catching a tiny 'insect'! Now if you accidently have the bludger hit the other team's seeker.... cant be that bad, can it?"

He hesitated for a moment. Ok, in a few he would test this beauty out! Since he did know enough to know of Caspian's family reputation he could be convinced the other boy was not lying to him about this broom being special. It was, it did not just look it. It really was!

"Really though, I believe if the team saw you fly they would be rather annoyed that they had not noticed you earlier. Would be a valuable addition to us, you know." He tried again. Oh he wanted to fly thus broom now!

Caspian smiled as Pavon inspected his broom. “Like I said, this particular broom isn’t great for a beater. It’s too delicate, built for speed rather than strength. But there’s another fantastic broom I’d recommend if you ever think of upgrading. It’s in cherry, so it’s strong but not heavy like oak so you still get that extra speed and agility.”
Of course, he didn’t exactly mean to imply that Pavon’s broom was in a dire need to be replaced, though he had to admit it probably sounded like it. But meh, Caspian didn’t really care. As far as he was concerned, he was merely offering advice and all modesty aside, he did know a great deal about brooms.

Being asked about joining the team did kind of annoy him. He’d been asked countless of times before and if he really wanted to join, he’d been signed up for the try-outs already, wouldn’t he. Yeah… Wasn’t happening.
“Nah, mate. I’m not interested. Though, chucking bludgers at members of the other houses does sound fun, I admit.” He grinned at the thought of knocking a Gryffindor off his broom.

“Go on then.” He said and motioned for Pavon to try out the broom which, by the looks of it, he seemed very keen to do.

Caspian sat back against a rock and watched as his fellow Slytherin would kick off the ground and take the broom for a spin around the grounds.

Pavon did not seem to take offence. He was aware that there were better brooms out there even if he had done his out most - with his finances - to get this one. He also knew every year better ones came out because really, if he could have afforded it those would be now in his room! He smiled and nodded. "Would be interested. At least to see which one you mean. I don't think I will be upgrading just yet." Oh, he would have loved to, but for the moment lack of money trumped want and desire.

He laughed. "See, there are some perks to being on the team." Though he would not press the matter any longer. If Caspian wanted to, he was welcome, and of course if there was space on the team, but if he preferred not to, he was not the captain to force him. Well, try forcing him.

After that he took off with the borrowed broom. The first few flybys were actually mostly done to get used to the broom, but the rest that followed had him test out what the broom could do, how fast it could fly, and how responsive it was in tight turns. It was clear the boy was really enjoying himself even if some of the stunts had been a little dangerous. At least he avoided a situation in which he might damage it, respecting the fact it was a borrowed one.

The dives, barrel rolls, twists and turns, took him a while. He had gotten a bit lost in the fun of it and the appreciation of the qualities of the borrowed broom. It was not often one could test such things out. When he did return it took him a few near stops, when he appeared to have decided to do just one more stunt or fly just a little bit further, before really descending towards Caspian. He was grinning broadly, slowly sliding of the broom. The grip was smooth and rather fine, sitting on it very comfortable. "Thank you!" He had said and looking grateful, no faking about that.
