David NorwoodFull Name:
David Edward NorwoodBlood Status:
EnglishPlace of Birth:
York, EnglandDate of Birth:
December 19, 2001Age:
English, French, SpanishRelationship Status:
Standing just a little bit taller than average, Headmaster Norwood is a thin – almost gaunt – man. Despite his advancing age, he moves quickly and gracefully. The wrinkles on his face and the gray hair the only concession he allows himself to his age. He wears a grandfatherly smile and seems to be in a perpetually good mood.Dressing Style:
Unlike so many of his predecessors, he has a low tolerance for dress robes and is rarely found in them unless there is no other option. Given the opportunity, he trends toward formal muggle-wear and can almost always be found in a well-tailored muggle suit; even at official ministry functions. During private time, and vacations, he can most often be found wearing casual – though still stylish – muggle clothes.PersonalityCharacter Description:
David Norwood is a prominent member of the muggle rights movement. As well, he is a staunch supporter, and a driving force behind the movement to reveal the magical world to the muggles at large and to work to integrate the two societies. He delights in introducing his students to the wider world and trying to instill in them a desire to see his vision through. He constantly presents a friendly, grandfatherly demeanor which does little to hide the clever and politically inclined mind behind it.Quirks:
Over the years, David has lost a lot of the physical prowess that he once had in his youth, but he is still extremely clever and intelligent – a credit to his House. This combined with the wisdom that one builds up over a lifetime, and the bravery and ambition that could have seen him sorted easily into pretty much any of the Houses – has brought him very far in his life.Weaknesses:
The downside of the success that he’s experienced over his long years is that it has left him very self-assured of his own beliefs; he is very closed-minded to new information and extremely convinced of his own superiority to the point that he has become extremely meddlesome as he is convinced that everything would be better if people would just listen to him. In his youth he was a very physical person and enjoyed many sports and outside activities – until in his early adulthood he caught a disease that left him a bit ravaged – leaving him frail and increasingly lethargic as he ages.Likes:
Norwood was honestly surprised by just how much he enjoyed teaching when he first started. It was intended to be a stepping stone on the way to better things – and it was – but it also became one of his great loves. Truly, there are many things that he takes joy from, and teaching is certainly one of them, but it’s nothing compared to his love of the power and prestige that he’s accumulated in his life and the respect that he demands as Headmaster. Dislikes:
For his entire career he’s been battling against the stigma of being a Muggleborn. The Purebloods despise him for it and even a lot of the half and mixed bloods assumed that it meant he didn’t really know what he was doing. The seething hatred this kindled in him for the pureblood bigots hasn’t waned over the years. The general dislike, however, has spread on to the bureaucracy that slows his vision and the people, regardless of their heritage, that try to stand in his way.Boggart:
His own death, his work undone.Patronus:
Golden EaglePatronus Memory:
The memory of the day he met his wife.MagicWand:
His wand is made of darkly colored spruce and has a core of pegasus feather. It is 12 inches long and surprisingly pliable.Strength:
David Norwood has always had an affinity for Charms and the Mind Magics. Weakness:
As much as he enjoyed the activity, he’s never been a quick study when it came to dueling or Defense Against the Dark Arts.EducationSchool:

David’s early life was pretty typical; he had a loving family and a number of close friends before he received his invitation to Hogwarts. His family and friends were overjoyed for him when he received his invitation to the ‘exclusive boarding school.’ When he arrived at Hogwarts he was blown away by the grandeur of it, and astonished by just how easy things were made by the use of magic. Even before he was sorted he couldn’t help but think of how much magic could have helped his family back home. The hat had barely settled on his head before he was sorted into Ravenclaw and he set out to join his school family.
As his time at school passed, Norwood worked harder than most anyone else around him – ignoring the taunts from his fellow students about his heritage and watching in horror as the drama unfolded in the non-magical world that his family had to deal with. Problems that seemed like they would be entirely fixable with magic and his resentment grew that the magical world was so content to pretend the rest of the planet didn’t exist. His grades were among the highest in his class and was awarded the Prefect position in his fifth year.
In his sixth year he met Tara, the woman who would become his wife, on a Hogsmeade Trip. She was a University Student and he began to spend as much time with her as he was able before in whatever time he could and she convinced him to hold off returning to the Muggle World and instead attend the university after graduation. He kept up his grades and was made Head Boy in his final year before graduating and running straight to the University where he worked for and earned his degree in Education.
With his graduation from Hogsmeade, he and Tara were wed. While he continued his school, expanding his education into the muggle world at King’s College, she worked in the Ministry, making more than enough money to support them – though, things became a little tight when Michael was born. David did what he could to be around and he was very close with this son. They became even closer when Tara died; murdered by a Dark Wizard who was fleeing the Aurors.
David finished his degree and began teaching, intent on changing the atmosphere of the magical world that gave rise to the people who’d killed his wife. He remembered fondly his history lessons from Hogwarts, and later the education classes at Hogsmeade and what he’d learned about Albus Dumbledore. The man had shaped several generations and changed the course of the Magical World from his seat at Hogwarts and David was bound and determined to follow the same path. Happily, he jumped at the opportunity to teach at his old school and was quickly accepted to fill the opening as the Charms Professor at Hogwarts.
Michael, on the other hand, took another route and after Hogwarts joined the Aurors – intent on protecting others so they wouldn’t have to go through what he did. While they disagreed on the best methods for protecting everyone – they both respected the other’s choice and remained close.
David spent nearly thirty years in this position, even serving as the Deputy Headmaster for a while. When the last Headmaster retired in 2063, David Norcross was the obvious choice to follow him and he was promoted unanimously by the Board of Governors. He accepted their offer with something akin to glee and set about forming the groundwork for what he wanted to do as he became comfortable in his new role. He was a bit more progressive than the Board would have preferred, but the results were clear and the quality of education remained high so they sat back and let him work.
As well as working with the Board of Governors, and building their trust, he also began to reach out and make contacts in the Ministry for Magic. With the support of both organizations he began to make the changes that he wanted to see. To the dismay of some of his students – and the offended outrage of the Pureblood contingent – he over saw the addition of Muggle Studies to the roster of required classes. The chaos was painful, but calmed more quickly than he would have expected as the students griped but largely attended their classes and did reasonably well.
He was frustrated to see, however, as the dust cleared from the change that it had fractured the students a bit. The horror built as he saw the tensions rise and spill over; culminating in the assault of one of his students. Despite his best efforts, he wasn’t able to track down the people responsible. Then, to his surprise it seemed she succeeded where he’d failed; not that he could ever prove that either. It turned out her assailants were the children of important movers and shakers at the Ministry and he watched – frustrated – as some of his contacts were removed from power.
Briefly it worried him as to what he was going to do next, only to watch in glee as Brandon Steward and Gavin Saunders were swept into power. It hadn’t been the outcome that he’d expected from the fallout – in fact, it was far better. With staunch supporters instead of reluctant allies in the halls of the Ministry, the skies were the limit as far as he could see and he was excited to keep the ball moving.
