Aiden was the third child, and second magical child, of a wealthy muggle family in Dublin. His father owns and operates an international shipping company that had been started by his great-grandfather. The family was always well off and the children never really wanted for anything. The business was even established enough that his dad wasn’t one of those fathers who was away all of the time for work.
Things were always a little weird around their house as things had a tendency to move, and break and things were just odd. Nobody ever really had any explanation for it until his middle brother’s eleventh birthday and the arrival of his Hogwarts letter and a Professor from Hogwarts to explain what it meant. From that point on, everything made a lot more sense – though it also became a lot quieter and more boring when Ethan left. Still, the odd occurrences slowed, but didn’t stop, and Aiden began looking forward to attending Hogwarts too since that was the only thing that made sense – William was too old for it to be him.
The next two years passed all too slowly for him as he heard stories about his brother’s time at school and he was all too glad when his own letter appeared on his eleventh birthday. It was the first time that he’d ever really done any traveling on his own and even then it wasn’t really on his own, there were a lot of other students on the train and he did his best to try and start making friends. He was pretty pleased with how well he seemed to fit in with the rest of the students and the ride went by in a flash.
He wasn’t sure how he felt when he wasn’t sorted into the same house as his brother, but he had to admit that Ravenclaw wouldn’t have fit him nearly as well as Gryffindor – where he was sorted. When he took a seat at his table with the other first years he ended up next to Caryn Taylor and was pleased and surprised at just how well they connected. By the end of their first year it was like they’d always known each other. It was kind of amazing that they managed to make it through their first year without getting kicked out – because as much as they got along, they also fed off of each other and sometimes it became difficult for him to know when to stop.
Finally the first year had ended and he was concerned about just how he was going to handle going back home and being surrounded by people that he couldn’t even talk to about what he was doing and what he had seen. Fortunately his fears had been groundless as he spent most of the time either at Caryn’s or her over at his place and the time off from school passed very quickly.
Second year was pretty much a repeat of the first, though this time he entered with a better understanding of what was going on and he thrived as he did his best to expand his circle of friends beyond just Caryn – though there was no question in his mind that she would always be his best friend. None of the people he spent time with connected with him the way she did, though he had a sizeable group of friendly acquaintances and he was happy with that.
Again, he managed to pull off passing grades and to the Professor’s surprise – as well as his own – he managed to move on with the rest of his class and he found himself headed home again and looking forward to third year.
