Tim wasn’t paying any attention to where he was going as he made his way through the halls back toward the Slytherin Common Room. The day had started out oddly, and gotten progressively worse as it had gone on. Until now, when he desperately wanted to go to bed and when he woke up the entire thing would have just never happened.
It was the first morning that he could remember that Amber hadn’t been waiting for him to go to breakfast. His first thought was that she’d run into someone else and had gone on ahead, but she wasn’t there either and he’d begun to worry. When she didn’t appear in any of their classes, that worry had morphed into out and out panic. After classes had ended, he’d rushed off to the hospital wing but she wasn’t there either.
With no better idea, he’d turned to make his way back to his Head of House’s office; hoping to get some sort of an answer about what was going on. Instead, he’d run into his father – and in a moment of insanity he’d asked the man about his missing friend. He still could see the look of almost glee in the older man’s face as he told him that Amber had arranged with the Headmistress to take her exams early and depart the school.
Suddenly, all he could see was the anger on her face as she’d all but thrown his engagement ring back at him. It had all just been a big misunderstanding and he had been certain they’d be able to work their way through it. Rather, they would be able to if she were still around to have that conversation. His father offered some bullshit offers of condolences and tried to seem like he cared but Tim just glared and stalked away; running his finger along the matching ring which he still wore.
By the time he made it back to the common room, he was almost sick with worry about the way this situation was going to play out. His eyes darted around the room and settled on a younger girl that was sitting in one of the chairs and made his way over to her. With a weak smile he said, “Hi! You’re Apollymi, right? Could you do me a really big favor?”
“Could you go up to the 7th year girl’s dorms and see if Amber Elison is up there?”
He knew it was extremely unlikely – as much as he hated his father, the man had no reason to lie about this, but Tim couldn’t give up hope just yet.Apollymi Rowle

When he’d thought about his seventh year, Tim had sort of assumed that it would be a lot like his fifth year. There would be lots of work to do and the Professors would be riding them hard to make sure that they did everything they needed to do in order to be ready for their NEWTs. In actuality, he’d only been part right. It seemed like there was actually more work to be done this year than there had been during their OWL year but the Professors – for the most part – didn’t take the time to reach out and check up with the students.
For the first time he could remember, they were actually treating them mostly like adults. They were telling them what needed to be done and then leaving it up to them to figure out a way to make sure that it happened. Tim was more than pleased to find out that this was an atmosphere in which he excelled. He’d always chafed against the authority figures who told him what to do and how to do it, that then got mad if he didn’t follow their directions to a T.
Even with the extra work, and the stress of NEWTs at the end of the year, he found that he tended to have more free time than I would have expected. Granted he used a lot of it to go back over things or to work ahead, but he still found that he had a fair bit of time to himself. He’d not seen Amber since the end of classes and he was working up the energy to take a hike out to find her – the only problem with that plan was that, historically, when he did that she’d immediately show up in the common room and he’d waste hours looking for her when she was sitting in the Common Room waiting for him.
With a sigh, he decided he’d give her a little bit more time before he set out to find her – and take advantage of the comfort of his chair in the Common Room at the same time. There was only a handful of other students there – a couple of other kids studying – but he grinned as he spotted a familiar face sitting on the couch. From the back, he couldn’t tell what she was doing – she could have been studying, or reading, or even dozing off – but he recognized Lottie; it really was good to have her back at the school again.
Rounding the corner of the sofa, he plopped down on the seat next to her, “What have they got you working on?” he asked curiously.Lottie Cane

It made him feel remarkably unsocial, but after a late night talking with Maz and then a further inability to sleep; Tim had remained in bed long after Amber had gotten up to deal with her friends and see them off. With his door shut, he’d contented himself with pulling a book from his shelf and just sacking out and reading. It had been a long time since he’d taken the time to just relax and read a book. At one time, it had been among his favorite things to do – but he’d moved away from that long ago.
Logically, he knew he was sulking but there wasn’t anything else he was really feeling up to doing at the moment. According to the elves, Richard hadn’t come back the night before – late or otherwise – and had sent his apologies along for the girls. Tim was curious to know what was happening at the Ministry but at the same time he dreaded finding out. The elves had also delivered the Prophet, though it sat ignored on his end table.
Reading it would have put his curiosity to rest. However, he wasn’t looking forward to reading it and finding out that things were worse than they’d appeared the night before. With a frustrated huff – mainly at himself for the childish behavior he was all too aware of – Tim settled back into the pillows and opened the book.
Certain that Amber would come looking for him once the others were seen on their way.Amber Elison

For once during the year, the week had gone by blisteringly fast. Aside from all of their normal work, he and Amber had spent a lot of time going back over the old assignments and notes to make sure they were ready for whatever Hart threw at them. It had reached a point that he was pretty sure they weren’t going to be learning anything new during their lessons – and since they weren’t going to uncover anything new, he didn’t really see the point in them wasting any more time on it.
As he waited for Amber to join him in their study spot he took a seat on the table, with his feet up on the bench, and chatted with one of the other Slytherin girls who was working on one of the Charms assignments and had seemed to be struggling with it.
A bright smile spread across his face as Amber appeared in the room and he greeted her as she approached, “Hello!”Amber Elison
