Another year down; Headmaster Norwood was beyond ready for the year to be over and he didn’t like that feeling at all. There hadn’t been any other job in his life that he enjoyed as much as his current position but that didn’t make the year any less frustrating. It had been marked by a long string of successes – both small and large – only to be capped off with a defeat he hadn’t really seen coming. He’d been working very closely with the Minister and now that she was gone he found himself scrambling to set up contingency plans to cover anyone that might take her seat.

Norwood sat at his seat behind the staff table and tapped his fingers on the table as he looked out over the students. They were chattering happily, clearly looking forward to their summer. It was nice to see his students happy, he hoped that they’d be less stubborn next year and that they’d start to give in to the way things were going to be going forward.

Eventually, he stood and raised his hands to get everyone’s attention. Ever since the arrest of the three students for the assault on Maz Cowan, and the news that one of them had actually been sent to Azkaban, the students had been quicker at quieting down and the room swiftly fell silent. His voice echoed out through the room, “Congratulations to all of you.”

“Another year has been completed. You’ve all worked very hard and your efforts have shown. I’m very proud of you. I can’t wait to see just how well you all do next year.”

“Now,” he continued with a bright smile, “it is time to award the House Cup!”

With a short clap, the banners in the room fluttered and altered form as decorations appeared on the wall; leaving the room decked out in Slytherin’s green and silver. With a smile he said, “Congratulations to Slytherin House!”

“You’ve all done very well this year, I wish you all the best over the summer and I look forward to seeing you back here next year!”

With the awarding done, the Headmaster took his seat again behind the head table and allowed the room to descend back into the activity that it had been displaying before his brief speech.

Abby was bouncing in her seat. She’d done it! She’d passed second year! She couldn’t help but giggle. She did have to ignore the odd looks coming her way for giggling at nothing. She did lose her smile as the house cup winners were announced. Oh, she didn’t hate Slytherin or anything silly like that, but she did wish her own house had won. That was only natural though. And the smile didn’t stay away for long.

She grinned at everyone around her as she piled her plate up high with her favorite goodies. The feasts at Hogwarts were always the absolute best! She loved having so many choices. There was no way she could eat everything she put on her plate, but she was sure going to try! She would make sure to leave room for dessert though. If she didn’t, that would just be tragic. She might even cry.

But luckily, she didn’t have to cry later. She might be sick with a stomachache, but it would be totally and completely worth it.

Once she settled down a bit more, she looked around at the happy faces surrounding her. Really, she didn’t talk to everyone, but this time she couldn’t resist. “So, is everyone looking forward to going home?” She was, but she wasn’t. She missed her home and her own bed, but she didn’t miss being ignored most of the time. She didn’t have to explain that though. No one knew but Trystan and her own siblings.

Amber was sitting in her usual spot near the middle of the Slytherin table. She, of course, had her back to the wall and she’d pulled Tim over to sit next to her. She was feeling a bit unsettled. She would be turning seventeen this summer and next year would be her last year in school. It was strange to think about.

She did her best to put such thoughts out of her mind as Slytherin was announced the winner of the house cup. She gave a bright smile. Only a very few people would know that it wasn’t completely genuine. Oh, she was happy, but overall, she still didn’t like showing her emotions publicly. She could put on the act though.

She reached over to Tim, lacing her fingers through his. They’d been together more than a year now, but what would the summer bring? Once her birthday arrived, she’d no longer legally be Mr. Morrigan’s ward. What would she do? What should she do? Should she ask to stay, as she’d been living there for years anyway, or should she move to her own house? Alone?

Ugh! She had to get rid of those thoughts. None of that mattered right this moment. What mattered was that school was over and as of tomorrow, they would be on a train and, hopefully, wouldn’t have to see a certain Charms professor, his bitchy wife, or his bratty little daughter over the summer. That thought made the smile on her face more genuine. There weren’t words for how much she hoped she’d be able to avoid those people. The little brother was tolerable, so she wouldn’t mind him.

She squeezed Tim’s hand and grinned up at him. Tomorrow equals freedom, she mouthed.

Blythe was one of the few that wasn’t very happy to be at the leaving feast. First, Gryffindor didn’t win the house cup. Second, she’d have to go home tomorrow. Third, well, there was no third. The second was bad enough. She’d learned the hard way how being hoe would be over the Christmas break. No fun, no attention, and a loud, smelly baby.

As the food appeared, she took some, but only really pushed it around on her plate. She wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone. Just in case anyone had decided to talk to her, she was sitting at the very end of the table. Her face was propped up on her hand and she looked extremely bored. That was only an illusion though. She wasn’t bored. She was dreading the things to come.

Would this feast ever end? She glanced up, looking around. Her younger brother looked to be having fun. That was good. She almost felt herself smile. However, her expression hardened when she saw her father smiling and her older brother with that girl. Hmm. Maybe if she played nice with her brother and that girl, whatever her name was, she could spend some time at the Caer, getting more riding lessons? After all, that was her grandfather too, even if she hadn’t known him long.

Caryn was laughing at Aiden. Did he always have to do this? Did he have to make those faces at her to make her laugh when she should be listening to Norwood’s end of year speech? She somehow managed to stop laughing ling enough to hear which house won the cup. Lovely. Slytherin. Not that Caryn minded Slytherins. She didn’t. She just wanted her own house to win. Oh well. There was no way they would have after she and Aiden had pranked Hart. At least no one realized they were the ones who had lost all those points. That was a definite plus.

Then finally the food arrived. Caryn wasn’t overly hungry. She’d sneaked down to the kitchens for a snack a couple of hours before, and, well. Those house elves really didn’t understand the meaning of the work snack. She took a few things, just enough for a few bites. She’d rather wait until dessert anyway. It would be the last time she could gorge on sweets until school started back. Her parents sure wouldn’t let her eat like that.

As she waited, she looked at Aiden. “So, which set of parents are supposed to be picking us up tomorrow?” She hadn’t heard if her parents or his would be there yet. She hoped he knew, but it wouldn’t be unusual for them to get to the station before finding out. She hoped it was hers though, since her cousin Jason was supposed to be going home with her this time.

Leaving feast.

Hadley snorted softly as she entered the Great Hall and took her seat. She didn't need a feast to tell her it was time to go home, she couldn't wait. Ever since good ol' Norwood had taken over things had gone weirder than it should, considering they were in a school full of witches and wizard. Maybe weird wasn't the right word, but she was being nice.

She chatted with a couple friends until everyone settled in to listen to Norwood drone on about this that and whatever else he had to say. She was glad she only had one more year. One more year and she would never have to deal with the ridiculous new rules and regulations placed upon them. She would also get away from all the useless house and blood rivalry that had also gotten out of hand. She had done her best to stay out of things, kept to herself except when she had no choice. She sighed and pushed her bitter thoughts away, it really just wasn't worth it to dwell on the bad, there was too much of that going around. School was over for the year and she would get to spend the next couple of months with her aunt and father. THAT made everything better in her eyes.

She applauded when the colors changed for the House Cup being awarded to Slytherin, though she got some nasty looks for it. They could all go kiss a bubotuber for all she cared what they thought of her. She might have had the brains for Ravenclaw, but some days she thought she was in the wrong house altogether, not that she would have survived Slytherin mind you. Norwood finished off his speech with well wishes and hopes of seeing them next year, whatever, shut up. She snagged a cauldron cake and, after breaking it in half, took a bite. She was eager to leave, much more eager than she had ever been before. She didn't even consider missing anyone or anything at the school, which should have bothered her to a point. However, it didn't. All she wanted was to be away from the castle that for all it's size, made her feel slightly claustrophobic. Maybe she was just moody in general and needed a change of scenery. Summer would provide that for sure.

Emily was in her usual seat at the leaving feast. She smiled as Headmaster Norwood congratulated them and said he was proud of them. She knew he probably didn’t even know who she was, not really, but she knew she’d worked hard and done her best. She had done something for him to be proud of. Not just him, but herself and her mother too.

She clapped politely when Slytherin was announced the house cup winners. She didn’t mind being nice about things like that. Maybe she could help Hufflepuff win next year. She could at least try.

At the mention of the summer though, she frowned. She knew she’d have to spend a few weeks with her father. While she didn’t mind her brother anymore, she still didn’t like her father and she hated her stepmother. But at least she’d have a lot of time with her mum, while her mum wasn’t working. She’d go to camp during the day and then she’d go home to her mum in the afternoon. She liked the routine. What she didn’t like was leaving her mum. She didn’t understand why she had to go see her dad. She didn’t want to and he didn’t usually let her go to camp. He said it was because he wanted to spend time with her, but what about when he was busy with her stepmother or working? He still didn’t like for her to go. It wasn’t fair.

She wouldn’t worry about it now though. She smiled at her housemates. When she heard one of the younger students ask a question, she decided to answer. “I’m looking forward to seeing my mum and going to camp.”

The last feast. The last one ever. Lillli wasn’t sure how to feel. She was happy to have finished school. But she felt at loose ends as well. What would she do after this? Would her plans work out? How could she make sure they did? She hadn’t exactly wasted her time at school, though she could have easily done better. They just didn’t teach her everything she needed. She needed to know how to run a business. She needed to know how to permanently enchant skateboards so she’d have a reason to run her business. Maybe Jason could help with that? He was really smart and could probably figure it out. She was sure he could even teach her. And maybe, she could afford to pay him.

Well, she wouldn’t worry about it now. She’d have a good time. That’s what she was supposed to do. She waved at Jason as she sat near where she usually did, across from Mickey. He just needed to arrive already. It just wouldn’t feel right if she wasn’t across from him at the leaving feast, this one particularly.

She wasn’t overly impressed with Norwood’s speech. Not that she ever was, but still. He mentioned next year, but nothing about those students who wouldn’t be here next year? No congratulations for those who were graduating? Typical. They could no longer put any feathers in his cap so they no longer mattered.

Slytherin winning the cup was somewhat unexpected, but it wasn’t like Lilli had cared who won past third year or so. She’d certainly never done anything to add to Gryffindor’s points.

And there he went, more about seeing the next year. Um, some of them wouldn’t be back. But again, no mention of that. Whatever. Not like it mattered. Not when she wasn’t even sure what the next year would bring.

The end of the year could not have come sooner. O.W.L.s were finally over and done with, and although she was probably going to receive fairly poor marks in most of her classes, particularly potions and that questionable subject they called muggle studies which, to be fair, she was undoubtedly going to fail since she hadn’t even bothered to open her book once throughout the year, Penelope could not be more pleased to be leaving school.
Her mother had sent letter a few weeks ago announcing their finally having reacquired ownership of the family estate in oxfordshire and the news had made her positively bursting with excitement. So much to explore and so many old things to snoop around in, and not to mention discover deep, dark secrets about her mother’s side of the family which has been next to unknown to her all her life. And, if she was lucky, she may even get to go spend a few weeks back home in switzerland too. It was going to be a fantastic summer.

“Oh, just shut up already you mouldy old wart.” Penelope muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes impatiently as Norwood was harping on about his usual nonsense. She wanted this feast over with as quickly as possible because the sooner it was over the sooner they’d all be in bed and the sooner they were all in bed the sooner it would be tomorrow and she’d be on the train home.
It did please her though, to find slytherin having won the house cup and she smirked smugly as the banners of her house spread throughout the hall.

Sasha was happy to be going to the leaving feast. She was that much closer to going home and getting back to her comforts. She liked having all the attention of her parents when she wanted it. She liked the freedom they gave her. She liked being around her friend and slipping seamlessly back into her queen bee role. If only tomorrow would hurry up.

She glanced up with a glare as Norwood started his speech. She really hated that man. She hated that she’d had to take a class she didn’t need in the least. Why would someone who grew up in the muggle world need to take Muggle Studies at all? The only upside was that she’d managed to take the OWL for it this year. She only hoped she could take the NEWT next year and just be done with it.

She did enjoy knowing that Slytherin won the house cup, but then Norwood kept talking. Ugh! Did that man ever shut up? She waited for what felt like another few hours, just listening to him drone on and on. Finally, he stopped talking and she breathed a sigh of relief.

She put some food on her plate and ate mechanically. She didn’t get all excited over the desserts. She never did. She just took a delicate spoonful of her favorite. She even made sure to leave a bit on her plate.

Just before Norwood started speaking Mickey and the girl who'd grabbed him in the entrance hall quickly entered. And though they did everything in their power to look the opposite they appeared as guilty as sin. Splitting they each made the way to their own tables. Sitting across from Lilli, the still slightly out of breath boy smiled at his friend before righting his appearance.

He didn't even glance over at the Slytherin's when it was announced that they'd won the House Cup. He didn't want his last ever leaving feast to be tainted by their smug faces.

When the food appeared it didn't take long for Mickey to pile his plate with everything he liked. Just about to dig in he felt eyes on him and looking up from the forkful of potatoes he asked Lilli, "What?"

Gideon sat himself across from Sasha then turned to listen to Norwood speak. He was happy that Slytherin had won the House Cup he would have been delighted with the change in decoration no matter the winning house. Every year he loved seeing the colours of the hall change in the blink of an eye. He actually looked forward to that bit of the day as much as the food.

When the food appeared on the seving plates Gideon ladelled some soup into his bowl then grabbed some slices of bread which he buttered. He loved the fresh baked bread the elves sent up, how the butter melted to it and was delicious dipped into his soup.

Smiling at Sasha he let his meal cool while the butter seeped in to the thick slices. "Do your parents have anything planned for summer?" Of course he would ask if she had any plans but given their age he guessed that like him she would be overruled by the adults in her life.

As she sat at the Hufflepuff table and listened to the Headmaster speak Maz noted that he seemed to be saying very little. Even given how much teachers could drone on he was saying much at all. Of course after her revenge plot had been seen out Maz had realised just what it would likely mean for the Headmaster. She knew he'd been working with the Minister but then she wondered, wouldn't he prefer to work with someone who wasn't corrupt, someone who wouldn't taint what he was trying to achieve. If the woman hadn't been up to dodgy dealing then there would have been no dirt on her. It was more her fault than it was Maz's. And as much as she thought he was a decent guy she'd have put herself first again given a choice, there were no regrets. Unless it was the lingering regret that she didn't get to punch anyone that is.

When Slytherin house winning the cup was announced Maz waited until the applause had died down before calling over to her friends. When she had their attention she shouted, "That you two gittin' points fur aw yir snoggin'?" She grinned as she asked before looking at the students seated beside her. The seventh year across and down a seat would do she decided as she leaned over and with her hand clasping the front of his robe coaxed him closer. The snog that followed lasted just a tad longer than she'd planned when she found that really, this guy what quite good at it. She had to break it up though or risk detention on her last night. Sitting back in her seat she raised her hand in the air, "Fifty points to Hufflepuff!" she announced raising some laughs from the boy and some others.

"Am 'hinkin' ah'll be seein' you later." She added to the boy before turning to the food that had appeared.

The Leaving Feast was always brilliant, the food some of the house-elfs best. Maz loved most of the dishes but immediately zoned in on the steak pie for a large helping followed by some potatoes. The younger students a few places down started talking but for the moment Maz was more concerned with her dinner than she was with anything else.

Lilli couldn’t help but notice the expression on Mickey’s face as he sat across from her. She didn’t have time to say anything because Norwood went right into his speech.

Once the food had arrived, she stared at Mickey, determined that he’d notice her sooner or later. And finally he did.

She laughed, shaking her head. “All you can say is ‘what?’” she sighed and started speaking like she was talking to a young child. “First of all, did you not notice how Norwood didn’t even mention those of us who won’t be back next year?” She was still stuck on that. Did they not matter anymore?

“Second of all, who is she? There’s only one thing that puts that particular expression on your face.” She raised her eyebrow, looking at him. “And is she going to want more than you just gave her?”

Sasha had smiled as Gideon sat down across from her. It was almost like a tradition now. It was nice and it did help with the loneliness she’d been feeling.

Right after she’d taken a bite of her own food, he asked her a question. She shook her head as she chewed quickly and swallowed. “My parents don’t really plan much for me over the summers,” she told him. “They both work, so it’s only really weekends that I see them a lot. We might do a couple of weekend trips somewhere, but even that is up in the air.”

She took another bite of food before she continued. “During the days, I generally hang out with my friends at home.” She didn’t tell him just what the relationship was like with her friends. She wasn’t sure why, but she was a bit embarrassed. There was nothing wrong with being the group’s leader, so she was a bit confused on that aspect.

“How about you? Any big plans with your family?”

There were not words that could describe how glad Tim was that the year was over. Things had been a lot more hectic, and a lot busier, than he would have expected for a non-exam year. Honestly, it made him worry just a little bit about their next and final year at the school. NEWT year was widely regarded as the most difficult year for the students and Tim was not looking forward to a year that was worse than the one they’d just gone through.

Clearly, Amber was significantly more unsettled and he wasn’t too sure why. She hadn’t really wanted to talk about it and he hadn’t pushed her too much. There was no doubt in his mind that whatever it was would be something that they could handle once they got out of school. It seemed extremely unlikely that whatever was bothering her was school related as the year was over.

At her urging – not that it was needed – he settled in beside her at the table and didn’t pay any attention to whatever it was the Headmaster was rambling on about. If the man was going to give any important information during the leaving feast than he was an idiot and Tim didn’t really think that was the case. While he couldn’t have cared less who won the House Cup, he – like Amber – put on an appropriately pleased look as their house colors decorated the room.

His smile became a lot more sincere as she took his hand and wrapped their fingers together. She wasn’t big on public displays of affection – most of the time – and he squeezed her hand tightly. Her whispered words made him grin and he pretended to scoff as he leaned in and whispered so only she could hear, “I’m pretty sure we’re free now – I doubt there’s much they could do to stop us from doing whatever it is we wanted to do anyway.”

Maz, it seemed, was far less concerned about keeping things quiet and he couldn’t help but laugh at her comment and a lot of the other students joined in – the laughter increasing as she turned her attention on the other Puff. Unfortunately – or fortunately depending on how you looked at it – the Professors didn’t look as pleased but there probably wasn’t a lot they’d be able to do about it at this point.

Amber couldn’t help the giggle reaction she got from Tim’s whispered reply. “Well, I know one thing stopping us from doing anything I want to do,” she tilted her head slightly towards the teacher’s table. “And they could get upset and put us in detention or something equally stupid for our last night here.”

If there was any reason to control herself, that thought was it. She definitely didn’t want to spend the last night of her sixth year in detention. She had a much better idea for that. “What would you think about doing a sort of campout in our room for our last night here?” Until the words were out of her mouth, she didn’t know how much she wanted him to agree. “Are you all packed already?” She was. She’d made sure to finish packing before the feast started. She didn’t want to forget anything in a mad rush to get it done.

She did turn her attention away from Tim when she heard Maz call her name, as well as Tim’s. She shook her head. “We’ve never asked the professors for pointers,” she called back, ignoring the laughter for the moment so she didn’t join in. She did laugh as Maz went on to kiss a guy near her. “If he’s any good at that, I bet Maz will be meeting up with him at some point after this,” she chuckled to Tim.

“I can’t wait to get home,” she sighed, even as she wondered how much longer the Caer would be her home.

At least they were all back on the winning team.

Failure was something that always made Keira's blood boil; and last year's loss to her step-sister's team, no less, made her blood lust - not literally, fortunately - rise to unprecedented levels. Belonging to a loser's team made her skin crawl, but for that singular moment everything was right in the world. They were the head honchos of that place. And if it came down to her, they would remain so until her last year.

Celebrations aside, she never really enjoyed eating in the Great Hall. Too noisy. Too much food she didn't like. Too much movement. Too many people. Her routine involved sitting at the first open seat she could possibly find, eat as quickly as possible and let her mind drift into her studies until she was allowed to leave.

But, not that day. A victory was a victory and she had to pick the best possible path of developing diabetes. She seemed to be somewhat hesitant into what to take to her plate - pickiness aside, she did want everything. Darn her fast metabolism...

She eventually settled for the Bouillabaisse-esque dish presented just a couple plates over. If it was free food and shellfish was near her location, it was going into her stomach. For once, she didn't seem like she was perpetually at odds in the world. The pleasure of success truly was relaxing for her.

Mickey chuckled at his friend's sigh. "What else can I say but what when you try to stare a hole into me?"

His attention was already wavering back to his food. His eyes looking back and forth as he tried to decide what to eat first. "Nope. I'm just happy to not have to pretend that I'm listening to him anymore." A glaze usually took over Mickey's eyes whenever the Headmaster spoke. "He just talks and talks... and talks."

He fought the urge to glance over at the Ravenclaw table and the girl there. "Chloe apparently. Sixth year." He frowned for a moment as he thought over her second question. "I don't think so. She just said she'd fancied me since first year." Mickey shrugged his shoulders before scooping potato onto his fork.

"There was no charm or anything." He hurried to explain. For though over the weeks he had come to accept his allure as part of him he still couldn't accept he wasn't making people do something they might not want to. "She just... grabbed me."

The potatoes he popped into his mouth before running his free hand through his hair. "You'd think I'd have noticed her before." He added before taking another bite.

"You should go to summer camp." Gideon told Sasha after realising her plans, like his, were no plans at all. "It's a bit lame but really you get left alone and it's somewhere out of the house, a bit of a change." A plus factor in Gideon's mind. Anywhere away from his father was.

"Same as you really. It depends on my grandfathers work but sometimes he'll take me with him." As much as the boy didn't always enjoy being taught tha antiques trade he did enjoy any and all time spent with his grandfather.

"I'm just really hoping he doesn't take me to my aunt's again. They're his sisters and they wear too much lipstick, kiss me all the time and call me Gidders." Instantly his face reddened and he quickly took a bite of his dinner, his eyes kept firmly on the plate. He hadn't meant to say that, it wa embarrasing enough when they did it without bringing it up to other people.
