Born the fourth son of a minor noble in Spain, Juan Diego de Ruis always had more resources that he had purpose. Much of his time was spent in taverns and brothels or raising hell with his friends and hangers on. Even as diverting as that was, his world was boring and remained such until word began to arrive that the crown was sending an expedition to the New World under the command of Hernan Cortez. Against his family’s wishes and direct pronouncements, Diego joined the expedition.
The New World was everything that he had hoped it would be, full of new adventure and danger as well as the chance for glory and renown. His education, as well as his family standing saw him rise in the esteem of Cortez until he was sent along as part of the diplomatic mission to the city of Tlaxcala. It would turn out to be his last act as a human – he was spotted by a vampire and recognized for his magical talent and that was the end. Or, the beginning.
Diego awoke as a vampire and never looked back. In a world awash in bloodshed and gold – he prospered and rapidly grew in strength and prestige in his new world. As always happened, things changed and calmed. His lust for adventure didn’t however and he has spent centuries wandering the world – attempting to learn as much of its secrets as he could.
