Exam were, although necessary, Professor MacLeod least favourite part of teaching. It had to be done though and she stood behind her desk awaiting the students’ arrival. As usual she expected punctuality.

Each desk had been prepared with a cauldron as well as tools and ingredients needed for the practical part of the examination, and quill, ink and parchment for the written part.

Once all students had arrived and taken their seats, Professor MacLeod began the exam by closing the door with a swiftly wave of her wand.

“Good morning.” She spoke, addressing the students in a collected tone. “You have 40 minutes to complete part one which is a written examination. When you have completed part one or when your 40 minutes are up, please bring your examination to my desk in an orderly fashion. You may then begin part two of the examination which is the practical part. A finished potion is to be put into a vial marked with your name and brought to my desk. If you have any questions during the exam, please raise your hand and I will come to your desk. Extra quills, ink, and parchment can be found at the back of the room."

She glanced around the room to see if everyone had understood.

“Very well. You may begin.”

Emily made her way slowly to her potions final. She really hated all the effort potions took. But she hadn’t blown anything up yet, and that was always a plus. She only hoped it would last.

She got to the classroom in plenty of time. She took her seat and looked over her notes before she had to put them away. She only hoped she’d studied the right potions.

She smiled as she was given the potion she was to do. The Wiggenwald potion wasn’t that difficult.

She easily completed the essay. Well, as easily as she could with the random spacing out that she was known for. She still managed to finish it within the time frame. Only just, but she still finished. That’s what counted.

Now it was time for the hard part. She gathered the ingredients, making sure to have extra just in case she messed up on a preparation or two. In the end, she needed the extra. And she’d accidentally added too much Wiggentree bark, but she’d tried her best. No one could ask for more than that.

She turned in a vial of it, having to run back to put her name on it, and then cleaned up her station.

Finally! It was her turn to do her potions final. Potions was one of her better subjects and she was glad to be able to relax during a final for once. She entered the classroom with a bounce in her step and took her seat. She didn’t try to do any last minute studying. If she did, she’d end up second-guessing herself. That would not be a good thing for this.

When she was given the signal to begin, she took her parchment, ink, and quill and placed them neatly on the desk. The theoretical part of the exam was almost too easy. She finished with plenty of time to spare. After turning it in, she sat, impatiently, until she was able to start the actual brewing process.

It was strange, but she enjoyed brewing potions. Maybe because she was good it, or maybe she was good at it because she enjoyed it. Whatever the reason, she almost always felt relaxed when brewing something familiar.

The Elixir to Induce Euphoria was one of those familiar potions. She’d brewed it plenty of times. It was almost second nature how she gathered and prepared the ingredients. Once the cauldron was ready, she started adding the ingredients, one by one, and giving the correct number and direction of stirs. When she finished, she smiled. It was a perfect sunshine-yellow.

She put some into a vial and put her name there. She vanished the leftover potion. Then she handed in her vial. She cleaned up her desk, making sure nothing was left behind.

She knew she’d done well on at least one exam, and that made her happy.

Thanks, G!

Tim’s mind was wandering as they sat and waited for everyone to arrive. As much as he wanted to spend the time chatting with Amber, he wasn’t as convinced that they’d be able to do that without pissing the Professor off and he wanted nothing to do with that. While he wasn’t as comfortable with Potions as Amber was, he wasn’t too concerned about the class either.

Finally, the waiting was over and he was pouring his way through the written part of the exam. In the years that he’d been going through the class he’d gotten pretty good about figuring out what was going to be in the exams, and it quickly became clear that his sixth year wasn’t going to be any different. He was near the front of the line when it came to turning in his assignment and he slouched back into his seat as he started setting out the ingredients for the potion.

It was one that he’d had more than a little bit of experience with and so, while he didn’t rush, he didn’t feel the need to dawdle either. When it was done he was happy with the color and the smell seemed right as did the viscosity. He carefully marked his vial and turned it in with the rest before waiting impatiently to be let loose on the rest of his day.

This exam was at least one of those Pavon did not worry about much. Potions were easy and they were fun. He had perhaps not been able to practice alone and he was banned from doing anything without supervision, still that did not mean that he could not ace it.

He began with the first part. The theory was not even hard to answer and write. He may have felt tired and achy, but could still pull through that part easily enough. He didn't know if he looked any paler but with how many students were fretting and pale from fear, he doubted it would be noticeable.

When the first part was finished he brought it to the desk and then continued with the practical. His movements were almost methodical, smooth. Everything that needed to be done was done to perfection. Quick, with the right amount, timing and order. The temperature as well was just right.

He finished with the potion that was the colour it had to be, the consistency it was supposed to be and it would have the right scent and of course the effect, if tested. He marked his name on the vial, filled it, corked it and then took that to the professor as well. Both of the assignments, written and practical, he'd finished before time.

After that he was ready to leave to get ready for his next test.

Hadley walked into the potions classroom only slightly apprehensive. Brewing potions was something she was very passionate about but exams were never easy and always caused her some level of anxiety.

She took her seat and, after waiting for the professor to give her instructions, started on the written portion of her exam. She set about the task with neat, precise writing, making sure everything she wrote was exactly how she meant it to be. She took her time, though she nearly took too much time and finished just before the allowed time was over.

She handed in her written exam with mere minutes to spare and went back to her desk. She went over the potion she needed to brew twice before starting.

She was meticulous in her crafting of her potion, and as before, took nearly the entire time allotted. She may have been overly cautious, but exams were important and she wouldn't be able to have her chosen career if she did not do well, especially in this class. Once completed, she filled a vial with potion and labeled it as required and took it to the Professor's desk.

She went back to her own desk and cleaned up, casting a small cleaning charm to do so. She sat quietly then to wait for everyone to finish and for them to be dismissed.
