It is June 2076. The sun is sticking around and with it the early rises and late sunsets. This month has highs of 15°C and lows of 7°C. Rain becomes rarer while one or two thunderstorms will occur. High pollen count and high humidity start to become issues.

Home. It really was the best place to be. It was somewhere that she was always welcome, always comfortable, and the people she cared about the most lived there too. That was why she was actually looking for her guardian. She only hoped he was at home in his office, rather than in his office at the Ministry. If she was lucky, he hadn’t been called in.

It was only the second day home from school. She’d already finished summer work for two different classes. She’d already asked Mr. Morrigan if he’d been checking on her house. He reassured her that the wards she’d wanted were up and working perfectly. The elves there were finding things to do. She was glad he was able to give the elves suggestion on other things to work on. She would have been at a complete loss if she’d been the one trying to make that mausoleum into an actual home. She’d made sure to thank him more than once for everything he’d done for her.

She wasn’t really looking forward to the conversation she had planned to have with Mr. Morrigan. She was sure it would be awkward to say the least. She took a deep breath before she knocked on the door of his home office and poked her head in. “Mr. Morrigan? Do you have a few minutes to talk? I could come back if needed.” She wasn’t sure which answer that she’d prefer to receive right then.

Amber had carefully chosen her outfit. She had no idea what to wear for this particular occasion, so she’d gone for cute and comfortable. Shorts, a cute top, and her comfortable shoes. She didn’t really know what to expect, but if the girls wanted to stay in, she’d be comfortable. If they wanted to go out, she’d be comfortable.

Now, she was pacing in the receiving room at home. She couldn’t believe she was about to have a slumber party. The very name of it made her shudder. She liked her visitors, but she couldn’t believe that she’d somehow managed to do something so girly.

But it didn’t have to be a slumber party. It was really just a couple of friends coming over. Mr. Morrigan had okayed it. In fact, he’d taken Tim into the Ministry with him so Amber could greet the girls alone. Why that mattered, she wasn’t sure, but okay. She also knew that Tim, at least, would be home in time for dinner. Who knew if Mr. Morrigan would be home? Sometimes he was, sometimes he wasn’t. It would depend on what was going on at the Ministry. There had been a few political fires recently, so he might be busy.

She shook her head. It was actually the first time she’d specifically asked if she could invite anyone over. And they were scheduled to arrive any minute. Sure, Maz had come over before, but Tim had done the asking then. Keira had never been over. Amber wasn’t even sure why she’d invited Keira, except that they’d really gotten along one day at camp.

What did one do when friends were over anyway? She hoped the girls would know more than she did.

The Amazing G has done it! Our new default skin was made completely by her.

Yes, I'm bragging on her because she won't brag on herself.

Love you, G! You're the BEST 'Little Helper' EVER!

So, a LOT of things have happened since I had to take an unplanned hiatus.

I had to company clean my house. My mom and a friend of hers came down. My father-in-law and stepmom-in-law followed a day later.

I finished out the school year with my job. Three days of having 30 kids in one room for final exams. Not fun, but over now.

My son graduated high school. That was why we had company. My grandfather joined us for dinner, but not the actual graduation. many people can say they watched their great-grandson graduate high school? But he had a religious thing the next day and wanted to get a head start on the drive. (Religion itself withheld to avoid offending anyone.)

He attended a 'lock-in' afterwards...a safe party sponsored by the school. On his way home the next morning, he dozed off at the wheel and ra off the road. HE IS FINE. He did take out about 12 feet of PVC fence. Unfortunately, he also took out my car. But he's not hurt in the least, and he didn't hit anyone else.

My daughter graduated middle school. She'll be off to high school next August.

Out of 31 ESE kids, only one actually failed, and only one class. pretty good odds, but I wish I had been able to help him more. As it is, I pulled him from all classes for two weeks straight to help him as much as I could. Another is passed administratively, and will finally be put in the 'handicapped-trainable' class. She has a really low IQ and honestly can't keep up with general education classes. But I'm proud that she did her best. She managed to pass most classes since her teachers graded her on effort as well as work quality. Another one did fail, but they will pass her due to her age. She's turning 16 this summer, so...

No more visitors. Last day of school was Wednesday. Yesterday was grocery shopping. Today, I fixed a toilet. Go me!

We're all out of school for the summer! Woo-hoo!

Also, the video, and possibly the yearbook, will be late this year. I'm sorry about that, but not for the reason why.

Amber nervously bit her lip. She was sitting in the chair that she and Tim always argued over before she would just sit on him. She was watching the flames, yet unable to lose herself in the fiery dance. It wasn’t often that the fire couldn’t calm her. She usually loved fires and watching them. But at the moment, she had too many worries on her mind.

The week of detentions was finally over. She’d made sure to piss off the professor as much as she could. She would refuse to answer if he spoke to her. She would sing the most annoying songs just loud enough for him to hear. She would sit outside the room, on the floor of the corridor, while Tim’s detentions were going on.

She was waiting for Tim so they could go see the Muggle Studies professor. They had studied the notebook that Maz had given them and checked the information against the book used for the subject. The notebook had been a hundred times easier to understand. She had learned that notebook backwards and forwards. She only hoped it would be enough.

Before she had a chance to imagine too many nightmarish scenarios, she heard footsteps behind the chair. Knowing it was Tim, she turned around onto her knees before standing in the chair. For once, that put her above his height. Taking advantage of that, she threw her arms around him and greeted him not with words, but a kiss.

Breathing deeply as she pulled back, she smiled. “I really needed that.” She gave him a tight hug before letting go of him and jumping out of the chair. “So, are we really doing this? And what is our exact plan?”
